K-12 Dyslexia Therapist
I graduated from Midland High School. I recieved my AA in Early Childhood from ASU Beebe. I recieved my BPS from Arkansas Tech University in Early Childhood.
I am a trained Dylexia Therapist through the APPLE Group in Jonesboro. I use their reading program Connections: OG in 3D.
I have been through the Connections training twice. I am trained in the Phonics First reading program as well as completed the training in Structures, an extension for older students. I have also been trained in the Fairview Reading program to work with deaf students in our district.
I am part of a Dyslexia Cadre so that I can keep our school informed of the latest information available for other districts as well as the ADE. I attend annual Conferences to gather new ideas and techniques to help each individual student so that they can acquire academic success.
I have been hired for the Midland School District as their K-12 Dyslexia Therapist. What this entails is that the district and I will work together to help struggling students be better able to overcome any obstacles they may have in learning! I will provide therapy to any child who fails the dyslexia screener and exhibits markers for dyslexia. This intervention is not intended to be a diagnosis, only a tool to seek out any holes and gaps in your child's education and help to fill those holes. It is an exciting time for our Midland Students! I have been through Connections Therapist Program, Phonics First and Structures through Brainspring. I have done the level 2 training through Brainspring.
I worked for Midland School District for 2 years as a substitute teacher. I was then hired as a teacher's aide for Midland Preschool. I was employed there for 16 years, first as an aide and then later on as a lead teacher. It was a rewarding and fulfilling experience! I will be forever grateful for the opportunity!
I have been married to Ronnie Sharp since October 1987. We have 3 children: Dustin Sharp and his wife Heidi; Emily Darnell and her husband Adam; and Joshua Sharp. They are all grown and are doing a great job of paving their own way in life! I LOVE being a GRANDMOTHER! I have 6 grandchildren. Heath, Angel, Josiah, Olivia, Zoe and Raven. They are my world!
There are several things I love to do! Some of my favorites are: Going to the beach; looking at antiques; gardening; and most of all spending time with my family and friends! I have worked several years learning sign language. I try to practice when I can. My newest passion is camping! I love being outdoors! I am learning to set up and break down camp, campfire cook, and backing the camper. It has been a challenge but worth it!
