Fifth Grade

The students have been studying about matter.  Some of the vocabulary we have been working on includes: atoms, matter, mass, physical changes, chemical changes, properties of matter and particles.

We have been investigating how everything around us is made of matter and matter is made of tiny particles called atoms, what the properties are of different types of matter, how matter can be changed both physically and chemically and how matter is conserved.

Sixth Grade

The students have been learning about thermal, or heat, energy.  We have been investigating how energy is always transferred from the warmer object to the cooler object, the methods of heat transfer (conduction, convection and radiation), how conductors help transfer heat and insulators resist heat transfer and how the kinetic energy of an object always increases when the object is heated.
